L.W.P. Group’s maiden venture into the lifestyle hotel industry began in late-2006 with the acquisition of the former Sportsman’s Lodge Motel. Located in historic Point Loma, one block from San Diego Bay, it was renovated and repositioned as The Pearl, a stylish, 23-room “budget boutique” hotel. Graced with award-winning mid-century design, unique poolside ambiance and a four-star restaurant and bar, it continues to be an acclaimed destination. Guest experience is paramount, and consequently, global travel and lifestyle media from USA Today to National Geographic Traveller UK, tout The Pearl’s affordability, style and substance – namely, its true-to-form mantra “hospitality as warm as the sun.”
In June 2014, L.W.P. Group entered the fast-casual dining scene with Tacos Perla, a taqueria experience. Located in San Diego’s burgeoning North Park neighborhood, Tacos Perla guests enjoy the comfort and sophistication of a newly constructed 750-square-foot modernist concrete and glass eatery. Tacos Perla showcases colorfully presented street tacos with big flavors, house-made tortillas and the best local and regional ingredients. The resulting personality evokes late-1960s Mexico – Tijuana street culture, the ’68 Mexico City Olympics – mixed with contemporary styling and hand-crafted charm. The brand identity feels fresh and dynamic – especially when supported by the ever-present Gomez, the prismatic “zonkey” character who serves as the official Tacos Perla brand ambassador.
In 2009, L.W.P. Group expanded upon its 20-plus years of award-winning, real estate development with the creation of Community@™, an affordable brand of urban properties. As San Diego continues its metropolitan renaissance, an eclectic populace with ever-evolving tastes, will require spaces of character and distinction. L.W.P.’s Community@™ branded properties fulfill that need. The uniqueness of the experience begins immediately, at the entrance with streaming music and rich visual detail. From there, members enjoy modern, boutique live-work environments married with resident services for maximum comfort and convenience. Also, as the name “Community@™” suggests, they’ll enjoy a lifestyle hub marked by tech-friendly common areas, seamless design, and special events that allow shared interests to emerge and thrive. As of July 2014, Community@™ is comprised of six buildings featuring 150 multifamily residential units and 30 commercial units.
From our home base in San Diego, we enjoy an amazing relationship with Tijuana’s creative and hospitality communities. For several years we’ve collaborated with street artists, architects, hoteliers, chefs and various other craftsmen and artisans. Naturally, inspiration has followed, in the form of The Gold Leaf Project, a not-for-profit public art initiative. Its mission is to advance artistic expression and appreciation, while strengthening connections between two great cities and cultures.
The project’s creative premise is simple: install vintage gold leaf frames in public space and populate them with modern street art. This created a juxtaposition of classic, reclaimed art frames with the urban edginess and social messaging of street culture. L.W.P. will commission artists and muralists’ participation, and consult with local experts to scout locations. Launch Date: Early 2015
